What are the statistics in paragraph 2 about?

A. Food variety.

B. Eating habits.

C. Table manners.

D. Restaurant service.

A new report found 46 percent of meals are eaten alone in America. More than half(53 percent)have breakfast alone and nearly half(46 percent)have lunch by themselves. Only at dinnertime are we eating together anymore,74 percent, according to statistics from the report.

How many languages are spoken by less than 6, 000 people at present

A.About 6 800

B.About 3 400

C.About 2.400

D.About 1-200

原文The median number (中位数)of speakers is a mere 6.000, which means that half the worlds languages are spoken by fewer people than that.

本段首句已经揭示----At present, the world has about 6,800 languages.

Which of the following uses the least energy?

A. The box-set TV.

B. The tablet.

C. The LCD TV.

D. The desktop computer.

We may think we're a culture that gets rid of our worn technology at the first sight of something shiny and new, but a new study shows that we keep using our old devices(装置) well after they go out of style. That’s bad news for the environment — and our wallets — as these outdated devices consume much more energy than the newer ones that do the same things.

How much should they pay if a school party of 15 persons book tickets?

A.$135

B.$126

C.$90

D.$84

Schools:school parties of ten or more can book $9 tickets in advance and will get every 10th ticket free.

23.How?long?does?Potty?about?Potter?last?

A. Two?days. B. Four?days.

C. Five?days. D. One?week.

原文

Potty about Potter(POT)

Visit Warner Bros Studio, shop stop to buy picnic, stay overnight in an approved Youth Hostel in Streatley-on -Thames, guided tour of Oxford to see the film locations, picnic lunch outside Oxford’s Christchurch, boating on the River Cherwell through the University Parks, before heading back to Exeter.

1.词语正确、连贯、流畅;

2.语句简洁,用词确切;

3.句子结构有变化;

4.语言整体性、逻辑性强;

当然不仅仅是and, then, but等。

A.表示递进 and ,and then, also, besides, in addition, moreover, one more, once more, and moreover(再者), what's more, even, what was worse …

B.表示转折 but ,however, yet, and yet, although, in spite of, in the contrary, on the other hand, otherwise…

C.表示结果 so, therefore, thus, as a result, luckily unfortunately, because of, seeing that …

D.表示时间 now, then, afterwards, later, soon, before long, after that, shortly after that, soon after that , up till now, just now, just then, five minutes later, so far ,to this day…

a.表示例举、说明:for example ,for instance, such as, that is to say, actually, according to this, believe it or not, to tell you the truth, and so on, in addition…

b.表示时间、动作过程或时间顺序:first , firstly, first of all ,second, secondly, far , above, below, near, beside, to the right, on one side…

c.表示比较、对比:just like, just as , in the same way, on the contrary, on the other hands, more or less, sooner or later , similarly…

d.表示强调:above all, after all, at least, at most, indeed, in fact, surely, certainly, without any delay, of course…

e.表示结论:finally, at last ,in the end , in a word, in general , generally speaking, in short, as you know, in conclusion…

 (1)段落中出现表转折的词语(如however, but, in fact, actually等)时, 该句很可能是主题句。

(4)表示总结或结论的话常有therefore, thus, in short, conclude, conclusion等。

①What's the main idea/point of the passage?

 ②The passage is mainly about________.

③The passage is mainly concerned about________.

④Which of the following best states the main idea of the passage?

⑤Which of the following statements best expresses the main idea/theme of the passage?

⑥In this passage the author discusses primarily______.

⑦The subject discussed in this text is________.

⑧The general/main idea of the passage is about________.

 (2)Main purpose

①What's the purpose of the passage?

 ②The passage is meant to________.

③The purpose of the article is to________.

④In this passage the writer tries to tell us that________.

 ⑤The passage tells us that________.

⑥The author's main purpose in writing the passage is to ...

①The best title of the passage is________.

②Which of the following is the best title of the passage?

③The best title for the passage is________.

④The most appropriate title of the passage is________.

In the animal kingdom, weakness can bring about aggression in other animal. This sometimes happens with humans also. But I have found that my weakness brings out the kindness in people. I see it every day when people hold doors for me, pour cream into my coffee, or help me to put on my coat. And I have discovered that it makes them happy.

From my wheelchair experience, I see the best in people...Often, we try every way possible to avoid showing our weakness...But only when we stop

pretending we're brave or strong do we allow people to show the kindness that's in them.

30.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

 A.A Wheelchair Experience.

 B.Weakness and Kindness.

 C.Weakness and Strength.

 D.A Driving Experience

可知,“But I have found that my weakness brings out the kindness in people”便是主题句,再根据第二段最后一句可以确定,这句的确是主题句。

Although the use of the expression is an insincere, meaningless social custom at times, there is nothing wrong with the sentence except that it is little uninteresting.

1、掌握所读材料的主旨和大意;

2、了解用以阐述主旨的事实和有关细节;

3、根据上下文判断大纲附表以外的某些词汇和短语的意义;

4、既理解个别句子的意义,也理解上下文之间的逻辑关系;

5、根据所读材料进行一定的判断,推理和引申;

Which of the following mentioned except…

Which of the following is not mentioned…?

The author provides in line…(或Paragraph…)an example in order to…

a.比较级与含有比较意义的词汇手段和句型结构;

first(第一),least(最不),uttermost(最)等;

c.表示惟一性的词汇:only,unique等;

为基础),be due to (由于);3)表示因果关系的连词或介词:because,for,why;4)表示因果关系的副词;as a result,consequently等,阅读时对这些提示词应该予以注意。

According to the passage,——It can be inferred from the passage that——;It can be concluded from the passage that——等,虽然从表面上看是问有关全文的题,但实际上不用看全篇,仍然只需要根据选项中的线索找到原文中与之相关的一句话或几句话,然后得出答案。 It can be inferred from the passage that——;It can be concluded from the passage that——等,先扫一下4个选项,排除不太可能的选项,然后根据最可能的选项中的关键词找到原文相关句,做出推理;3.

用这种阅读方法回答who、what、when、where之类的问题最为有效。

①Which of the following is true/NOT true in the passage?

②Which of the following statements is NOT discussed/mentioned in the passage?

③Which is the right order of the events given in the passage?

④All the following statements are NOT true excep. 英语中有许多功能词,如:表因果关系的because, since, as等;表转折关系的but, however ,on the contrary, on the other hand等等。

The herdsman, who looks after sheep, earns about 650 yuan a year.

Though Tom?s face has been washed quite clean, his neck still remains grubby.

She wanted the hairdresser to trim her hair a bit because it was too long.

Most of the roses are beginning to wither because of the cold.

At forty-two he was in his prime and always full of energy.

You can take any of the periodicals: "The World of English". "Foreign Language Teaching in Schools", or "English Learning".

①What can you conclude/ imply from this passage?

 ②What?s the author?s attitude(态度)towards

③We can infer /learn from the passage that?

如: Once there was something wrong with a machine in a factory. The workers could do nothing but turn to a German engineer for help, who drew a line on it and said, ?Take off the part where the line is and change it for a new one. ?The machine, with a new line on, began running well again. The engineer then asked for $ 30,000 for what he had done. The following were what he wrote on a bill, ?The new part only costs one dollar, and knowing where the problem with the machine is costs $ 29,999.?

Q: What can you conclude from this passage?

 A. the engineer asked for too much money

 B. the workers should pay the money

 C. the knowledge is worth money

 D. the new part could cost more

People bury treasure to stop other people from taking it. They choose a quiet place, dig a deep hole and bury the treasure in it. Then they make a map of where the treasure is or write down other clues(线索)that will help them or someone else to find it again.

In Britain a few years ago; a writer wrote about some treasure that he had buried. He put clues in the story to help readers find it. Thousands of people hunted for the treasure. They dug holes all over Britain, hoping to find it.

One of the most popular adventure stories ever written is Robert Louis Stephenson's ?Treasured Island?, an exciting story about a young boy, Jim Hawkins, who is captured by pirates and later finds some buried treasure.

Then there is the true story about a man who had to travel overseas for a year. He did not trust banks, so he buried his life savings in a park. Then he went away. On his return, he went straight to the park. But the park was no longer there. In its place there was a huge building.

And then there was the man who buried his savings, all in bank notes, in a waterproof(防水的) bag. When he dug it up years later, there was nothing left. Worms and insects had eaten the bag and everything in it.

And of course, these are stories about people who bury things and either forget where they have buried them or lose the map.

Although it is true that people sometimes lose their money because a bank fails, banks are still the safest place to keep our savings and treasures.
